Team

The people behind Percipient.

A small, experienced team. Professional, supportive, and good to work with — which is why most of our portfolio companies stay with us through the full arc.

Jason Gould

Jason Gould

Co-founder / Director

Jason co-founded Percipient and works hands-on with portfolio companies — structuring investments, sitting on boards, and helping management teams through the detail that gets deals done. He has worked in venture capital and private equity for almost 30 years, first as a director with HSBC Ventures and then as Fund Principal of the South East Growth Fund. Across his career — spanning HSBC Ventures, the South East Growth Fund and Percipient — he has led more than 100 investment rounds across 47 companies, from early stage to growth capital to management buyouts, in sectors as diverse as biotechnology, software, manufacturing, distribution and business services. Investments include Oxford BioTherapeutics, MyWorkpapers, International Logistics Group and Elucigene Diagnostics. He holds a first-class degree from the University of Manchester.

Away from work, Jason lives in Northamptonshire with his wife and two daughters, and is happiest hanging off a wall at his local bouldering centre.

Ed Farquhar

Ed Farquhar

Co-founder / Director

Ed co-founded Percipient and sits on the boards of several portfolio companies, working closely with the management teams the firm backs. Before Percipient he was a founder and director of Numis Securities, where he headed the Equity Capital Markets team — 15 years of City experience specialising in smaller companies, with numerous IPOs and secondary financings behind him and an intimate working knowledge of AIM and the public markets. Ed was educated at Stowe School and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, and served as a commissioned officer in the Life Guards.

Ed lives in London with his wife and three children, and enjoys skiing, riding, shooting and tennis.

Martyn Booth

Martyn Booth

Non-Executive Director

Martyn is a Non-Executive Director of Percipient, bringing an independent perspective to the firm’s governance and its investment decisions. He has provided risk capital to private businesses for more than 35 years, across every stage of the fund lifecycle — from raising capital through to realising investments. Much of his career has been spent in governance and regulatory compliance, first as a compliance officer in the IMRO era and later across FSA- and FCA-regulated firms, alongside company secretarial roles and a lasting interest in company law. Earlier he was chief executive of a small group of companies, where he led a management buy-out and restructuring that handed employees a stake in the businesses they worked in. Martyn holds a degree in Economics and Government from the University of Bath and is a chartered management accountant (FCMA, CGMA).

Outside work, Martyn is an active part of Staffordshire village life, and enjoys long walks across the neighbouring fields, gardening, collecting art and charitable work.
